BMI (Body Mass Index)

Am I candidate for bariatric surgery?

Understand your body mass index

Meeting the criteria for bariatric surgery involves assessing your body mass index (BMI), which is a numerical measurement reflecting your weight relative to your height.

An ideal BMI falls within the range of 18 to 24.9. Morbid obesity is identified when the BMI reaches 40 or higher.

Typically, eligibility for bariatric surgery arises if your BMI is 35 or higher, accompanied by specific and substantial health issues such as Type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, or hypertension.

You can find your BMI on the NHS website
